Can you believe it's been a month?

It's been over a month since the launching of Imprints by Maleshia J. and what a fantastic opening experience it has been. I've received so many positive reviews and critiques from my family and friends, and I want to hear more feed back from you... yes YOU!

Since the Imprints launching in February, I've been participating in an apprenticeship with a more experienced independent photographer who attends graduate school with me. What a humbling experience it has been so far. I've learned so much from our meetings and now it's time to practice everything that has been learned.

It has been pointed out that my portfolio is lacking in the following areas:

  • Portrait photography

  • Group portraits

Pretty much anything that involves and intimate encounter or interaction with others. It's not a bad thing - some photographers have their niche - but I can totally see where they are coming from, and I completely agree that it is something I would like to gain more experience with.

For that reason, I want to get out outside to just practice more often in different contexts besides stilllife (plants, inanimate objects) and architecture, but more so expand my portfolio to more portrait photography. I have to start somewhere right?

Pending projects:

  • Campus Fashions - accumulate a diverse collection of students with very unique fashion willing to share their style with the rest of the world

  • More things Blacksburg (Local) - so far I've visited the main landmarks (Burruss Hall, Torgersen Bridge, The Pylons), but I hope with this project to photograph/delve into more quaint, intricate, and not-so-widely-recognized places related to the university and Blacksburg community (local restaurants, popular spots, etc.)

  • Camera Settings - mainly build skills and experience with using ISO Speed, aperture, and shutter speed properly to creatively compose a lasting memory

That's what has been up in a nutshell. Until next time!

Peace, Love, & Happiness
