I Attended My First Ever #StreetMeetDC Photography Meet Up

I discovered #StreetMeetDC while perusing the Internet. The structure and outline of how the meet ups are coordinated is pretty cool! Street Meet DC announces the location. Photographers, videographers, models, dancers, artists, and creatives of all kinds show up and show out. Everyone has an equal opportunity to connect, practice, and simply have fun! The outcome always looks pretty dope and I had always wanted to attend one to experience it for myself and expand my portfolio, but my calendar just never synced up (hence my last blog post lol). But then March 30th arrived.

Long story short... I had an awesome experience! There’s so much happening at one time. Over 300 people (probably more than that) come out for one common goal. Walking up to the scene was like something you’d see straight out of the moving opening scene of a freshmen on a college campus. Varsity club over here. Afrocentric Kings and Queens over there. The rebels over here. The creative and liberal artists over there. The singers, the dancers, the writers, the fashionistas, the models, the actors, the designers, the personal trainers amidst the crowds. The list goes on. There is beauty in all of these different groups being present. That alone, along with the privilege of being able to meet & interact with new people within the DMV, ignited the fire within me.

I didn’t stay for a super long time, but I made use of the time I had while I was there. I had the pleasure of photographing many subjects who stood out to me. I’m looking forward to the next meet up, which happens to be today, Saturday April 27th at Founders Park in Alexandria, VA. I hope to challenge myself to photograph with a particular vision in mind to add to my portfolio.

Check out my flicks from the last Street Meet DC Meet Up! Enjoy!
