I recently entered into a photo contest sponsored by the Virginia Tech Graduate Life Center (Graduate School) in light of the upcoming 2014 Graduate Education Week (GEW) next week. One of the things I felt was necessary for my growth as a photographer is expose my work in varying avenues.
This photo contest was the perfect opportunity to showcase one of my developing talents to my graduate peers and really compete for something. The contest as a whole is also a perfect opportunity to see the world from someone else's eyes. There were so many amazing photos alongside my own.
Well, the major point of this post was to say that I submitted three entries, two of which I have already shared on this website ("Simon" and "Window") and the last one has yet to be unveiled but will be revealed in due time. It is currently one of my signature photos. I guess you'll have to stay tuned.
Today, the GLC staff begin posting up the selected photos and guess what? Two of my photos had been selected! This was such an awesome moment for me. Now that I have two of my signature photos in the competition, the next part will be the voting process for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for photography, which include my photography being recognized and distributed in university publications, for recruitment purposes, and long standing exhibition until the Fall semester.
The prize I'm really hearing is recognition of my creative photography. I'm a graduate student, yes, but I'm very appreciative that the graduate school gives us plenty of opportunities to showcase our other talents and skillsets in various forms.
Peace, Love, and Happiness :)
