A few months ago I attended a masterclass on Bridal Details, which was hosted and instructed by Baltimore wedding and portrait photographer Trené Forbes (Trené Forbes Photography) at the J. McLean Photography Studio in Pikesville, MD. Trené, who specializes in detail portraits, took the time to show us the ropes for enhancing our portrait, flatlay, and detail photography with hands-on demonstrations and on-site feedback. Plus, this particular styled shoot featured an actual couple - a real life husband and wife duo who also are one of Trené's previous wedding clients! How cool! The most powerful part of the masterclass was seeing practical examples of Trené's work and learning how to incorporate special elements and props into your photography that will make portraits dynamic and memorable (i.e. detail hack of using a white pillow as a diffuser and backdrop was a cool hack).
I had such an amazing time learning some tips and tricks of the trade and I learned so much during my time at her masterclass. I also met 12+ other local photographers from the DMV who were looking to step outside of their comfortable zone and up their level of photography. Styled shoots are fun and a great opportunity to learn from other great photographers and build your photography portfolio, while practicing your craft and fellowshipping with other creatives in a comfortable learning environment. I can't wait to attend future workshops, masterclasses, and conferences that will help me continue to grow as a professional photographer (I've already got my eye on a few in 2020!).
For this styled shoot, I primarily used my Nikon D750 paired with my 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Check out some of the amazing portraits I took during Trené's bridal details masterclass!
